Masterton District Council is inviting tenders for architect services for the Civic Facility.

Negotiations are continuing for the purchase of the preferred site for the Civic Facility, in the north end of Masterton.

Tender documents for architect services have been uploaded to the Government Electronic Tender Service (GETS).

Features the building is to include are:

  • 27m x 27m flexi-form “black box” theatre with seating for 500 people
  • library and archives with a footprint of approximately 2800 m2
  • an information hub which includes Council services, and a box office
  • large customer service area, with ancillary back-office support spaces, such as staffroom, bathrooms, and storage etc
  • a pre-function space large enough to support the capacity of the black box theatre that could also be utilised as an exhibition/show case space when not in use for functions
  • a ‘hybrid kitchen’ – full kitchen capacity for banquets of up to 200 attendees, and finishing kitchen capacity for banquets of up to 400 attendees
  • three meeting rooms (each with capacity to for 12 people).

Masterton Mayor Lyn Patterson said selection of an architect was a key element in the project.

“As the tender documents make clear, the Civic Facility is one of the most important things the Council will deliver for our community.

“We are committed to doing it once, doing it right, and creating something that the community can be proud of.

“The new Civic Facility is part of our vision to create future-proofed spaces and places for our community, while also incorporating our history.”

Tenders close on 13 October, with preliminary designs expected by April 2022.
