Masterton District Council has temporarily closed the swingbridge over the Waipoua River after some users reported problems with the decking timbers.
We’re looking into what is causing the boards to move – a contributing factor may be the hot weather.
The bridge will initially be closed from today (Friday 14 February) until Monday, while the situation is assessed.
We appreciate closure of the bridge will be an inconvenience to some members of our community. However, we want to make sure there are no health and safety risks that need to be addressed.
The nearest alternative crossing of the river is via the bridge on Opaki Rd, approximately 200m away.
