Tīnui
Tīnui is a small farming community 30 minutes east of Masterton on the road to Castlepoint and Mataikona. Tīnui was the first place in New Zealand to have an ANZAC Day service. On 25 April 1916, the local vicar, Rev Basil Ashdown, led an expedition to place a large wooden cross to commemorate the dead on Tīnui Taipo, a 360m high promontory behind the village. The original cross, made of jarrah, was replaced with the current aluminium cross in 1965.
In the township you will find public toilets, a bar and cafe, a museum and shops. For more information you can visit the Tīnui History website.
Tīnui School is a co-educational state primary school for Year 1 to 8 students and has a roll of around 45 students.
The Tīnui Hall is available to hire and has a stage, seating, tables and full kitchen facilities.
