We are proud to be a part of Welcoming Communities | Te Waharoa ki ngā Hapori, a programme to support newcomers to feel welcome and able to participate in the economic, civic, cultural and social life of their new community.
Masterton is an ethnically diverse region with many newcomers to welcome as part of our participation in the refugee resettlement programme. We have been a participant in the Welcoming Communities programme since March 2021 and we’re currently pursuing our Stage 1 accreditation.
The programme aims to make the district more welcoming for everyone. It focuses on achieving a standard of eight elements that help benchmark what a welcoming and inclusive community looks like including:
To welcome our new citizens, we host three citizenship ceremonies a year. Our ceremony dates for 2025 are Thursday 20 March, Thursday 10 July, and Thursday 13 November. You can read more about the ceremonies and what to expect on the central government website.
