The Masterton District Council has a Mayor and eight Councillors. These positions are elected within the Masterton Whakaoriori General Ward, Masterton Whakaoriori Māori Ward, and at-large, every three years.
Responsibility for Council activities sits with the Mayor and Councillors. The Council makes decisions about the range of services and activities that will be provided. The Council sets the policy for these and then the staff are asked to do the work to make sure the services are provided. The Council has some freedom to decide on its aims and policies but it has to do this within the laws, regulations and requirements that are set by Central Government.
Council and the Committee Structure
Decision-making about policy and control of district operations is done in formal meetings. The new triennium meeting schedule and commitee structure, following the 8 October 2022 Local Election, will be agreed by the new Council and updated here.
Register of Interests
Elected members are expected to maintain a clear separation between their personal interests and their duties as a member of Council. They must exercise care to avoid situations where they have, or appear to have, a conflict of interest. The Register of Interest records of the newly elected members’ declarations will be published here following the October 2022 Local Elections.
