Masterton District Council is moving forward with finalising site options for its new Civic Facility, agreed in June as part of the 2021-31 Long-Term Plan.

Hastings-based company Resource Developments Consultants Ltd will undertake geotechnical testing at a site occupied by the Bridgestone Tyre Centre, one of several sites the Council is currently considering at the northern end of the town as a location for the facility.

The geotechnical testing will confirm soil properties, liquefaction potential, foundation recommendations, site stability, and earthwork recommendations.

Wellington-based Griffiths Drilling will undertake the drilling on-site.

“This is the last of the testing we will need to undertake on the sites we are considering for this project,” said Councillor Tina Nixon, Chair of the Civic Facility Project Committee leading the ongoing planning for the Civic Facility.

“This is the only site we are looking at that requires this type of testing, and we are grateful to the businesses currently on the site for their patience while this testing gets underway.”

Testing should be completed by the end of the week, with results due back before Christmas, enabling the Council to progress decision-making on its preferred site.
