Senior Resource Planner

Come and join your local Council serving the Masterton community.
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Resource Planner ready to take ownership of this role in our small, busy Planning team.
You will be responsible for administering the Wairarapa Combined District Plan, and for processing resource consent applications. Your work will be done within relevant legislation, timeframes and delegated authorities, with a focus on providing high quality advice and support to Council staff, customers and other stakeholders.
But it’s not just about technical skills; attitudes and behaviours are just as important to us. We need someone who can demonstrate an ability to get things done, keep promises around service delivery and timelines, manage expectations and use a common-sense approach.
To be successful, you will bring to this role:
- A tertiary qualification in planning or resource management
- Previous experience working in a similar local government organisation
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of RMA and LGA legislation
- Excellent understanding of planning principles, tools and public policy
- The ability to impart and transfer technical knowledge to enhance the development of others
- Outstanding written and verbal communication, consultation, and negotiation skills
- A full NZ motor vehicle licence (current)

Building Control Team Leader
We’re looking for someone to head up our Building team and support Masterton District Council’s commitment to ensuring the quality of our residential and commercial buildings meet expectations. Helping the team deliver its program of work within relevant legislation and timeframes will be a key focus.
Reporting to the Planning and Building Manager, your key focus will be to provide efficient and professional day-to-day leadership to the team. This means you will be responsible for leading the team to deliver quality, customer-focused consenting, inspecting and compliance services.
We’re a small team, so it’s a hands-on role. In addition to leading the team, some days you’ll be processing building consents, helping our customers or being out and about doing inspections.
You will need:
- Solid experience in the building and construction industry
- A qualification suitable to this type of role
- Competencies in inspections and processing
- Sound understanding and practical knowledge of current NZ Building Regulatory environment including the NZ Building Act 2004, NZ Building code
- People leadership, relationship-building and influencing skills
- Experience of regular contact with customers and working with a broad range of community and professional people
- Intermediate knowledge and experience in working with computer systems
- Current NZ drivers’ licence

Library Shelving Assistants
Are you interested in books and reading, and learning about the large range of library services we provide? Do you want the opportunity to experience library work with a view to pursuing it as a career?
We are looking for energetic and motivated students who have ideally completed NCEA Level One to join our library team as shelvers. In this role you will shelve books, serve customers and assist with general library duties helping us provide an outstanding service to our customers and community.
You will need to be available to work from 9am – 1pm on Saturdays and after school from 3.30pm – 5.30pm for up to 2 afternoons a week. Specific days will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Additional hours, and work during school holidays, may be available.
