Management & Assets Accountant

A key role in Local Government, working for your local community.

We’re looking for a strong management accountant ready to take ownership of this role in our busy Finance team, reporting to the CFO.

You will be a specialist in your field with proven experience in a similar role. Our ideal person will be able to operate in a flexible environment with a wide range of stakeholders, asking the right questions to help drive efficiencies through the Council and be closely involved in key assets-based projects.

Your key function in this business advisory role will be providing high-quality advice to internal stakeholders to drive successful business decision-making. This will include:

  • Assisting managers with budgeting, forecasting and variance reporting
  • Delivering sound financial advice and direction
  • Analysing and providing costing business cases
  • Provision of support to cost centre managers so that they can deliver on their plans
  • Understanding and reporting on asset-related expenditure

But it’s not just about technical skills; attitudes and behaviours are just as important to us. We need someone who can demonstrate an ability to get things done, keep promises around service delivery and timelines, work alongside technical staff, manage expectations and use a common-sense approach.

To be successful you will bring to the role:

  • CA, CPA or equivalent
  • A strong focus on stakeholder engagement
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • An enquiring mind and strong analytical skills
  • Comprehension of the key business drivers that impact business performance
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • The ability to challenge and influence effectively to drive performance.
