Cycleway consultation open
Consultation is now open on Masterton District Council’s proposed Lansdowne to Kuripuni cycleway.
The proposed cycleway is intended to provide a safe cycle route for school students and other users along Colombo Road and Herbert Street, and would be funded by Waka Kotahi as part of its Transport Choices programme.
It would be the first separately demarcated cycleway in Masterton, and build on a route identified in the Council’s Cycling Strategy adopted in 2017.
As well as Lakeview Primary and Chanel College, the cycleway would potentially provide part of the route for students of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Wairarapa, Mākoura College, and students from the east side of Masterton travelling to and from Masterton Intermediate and Masterton Primary School.
The consultation will run until 4pm on Monday, 19 June, with information and a submission form available on the Council's Consultations page.
Submissions can be made online, or printed and dropped off at the Council’s Queen Street office, at 161 Queen Street, Masterton.
Hard copies of the consultation documents can be picked up at the Queen Street office and Masterton District Library.
As well as a proposed route, for which Waka Kotahi has approved funding, the Council is also inviting comment on two potential alternative routes.
Drop-in information sessions will be held at:
- Chanel College, 5-7pm, Thursday 8 June
- Masterton Netball Courts, 10am to 12noon, Saturday 10 June.
Copies of consultation documents will be delivered to addresses on all routes this week.
