Homeless Shelter in Masterton

They are also writing an article on a homeless shelter being developed in the district and asked us to make a comment on the need for a shelter, what the council's position is on addressing / supporting homeless, and how the council will be involved in the project.

Unfortunately, Masterton is not immune to the social issues being faced across New Zealand. We welcome the development of housing options for people who are experiencing homelessness or who might otherwise not have access to overnight shelter.

Addressing access to affordable housing in our district is something we have been working on through our recent application to the High Court to sell vacant land at Panama Village to enable public housing to be built and provide an affordable housing option for locals.

Kainga Ora’s recent announcement that they are working alongside Masterton developers to acquire housing in Masterton will also help many local families – and we welcome their return to the district.
