Te Tukanga Whai Kaimahi
Being able to deliver the best for our community is priority for us here at Masterton District Council. To make sure we get the best person for the role, this is our process:
Applying for a vacancy
We list all of our vacancies on our website and advertise them on platforms like Seek and LinkedIn.
You can submit an application by completing an Employment Application Form and sending that to us along with your CV and cover letter.
The job ad will have all the details you need about who to send your application to and when the job closes.
Our shortlisting process
We review all applications and shortlist applications with the skills, qualifications, and experience required. If you are shortlisted, we will contact you within 8 working days of the vacancy closing to arrange an interview. If you are not shortlisted, we will let you know within 10 working days of the vacancy closing.
Our interview process
We will organise an online or face-to-face interview with our shortlisted applicants. The interview will usually involve behavioural and technical questions and could include a practical component. If you are our preferred candidate, we will let you know and conduct reference checks before we make an offer of employment. You can expect to hear the outcome of the recruitment process within 8 working days of your interview.
Accepting a role with us
If you’re the person we want for the role, we will contact you by phone to make a verbal offer of employment and will then follow this up with a written offer within 5 working days. You should review the offer and formally notify us of your decision within 5 days of the verbal offer if you’re keen to join the team.
On your first day
We will welcome you in, guide you through induction, introduce you to the various departments of Masterton District Council, and begin getting you familiar with who we are, and your role here. But don’t worry: we know the first few days of a new job can be overwhelming. We’ve got your back.
