Masterton District Council has appointed David Hopman as its new Chief Executive.
Hopman, who has been acting in the role of CE for the Council since July, was offered the role following several weeks of recruitment by agency JacksonStone & Partners.
“Councillors and I interviewed several high-quality applicants for the Chief Executive, but David stood out as the best candidate for the role,” said Masterton Mayor Lyn Patterson.
“Given his experience at a local government level, his understanding of Masterton District Council and the community we serve, and his knowledge of the future challenges councils will be facing, offering David the role was a unanimous decision by myself and councillors.
“David has done an outstanding job acting in the role. I know staff have appreciated his steady guidance over the past few months, and I look forward to working alongside him as our Chief Executive.”
David has worked for Masterton District Council as Asset and Operations Manager for the past 12 years.
“A lot of people encouraged me to apply for the role of CE,” said David. “With my background at Council, they thought I would be a good fit and could make a difference.
“Council is facing a period of change with the Government’s Three Waters Reform recently announced, and the Future For Local Government Review currently underway. I hope my experience and leadership will help steer Council through the changes, and that my history as part of the team here will help continue to make Masterton District Council a great place to work, while working in the best interests of the people of our district.”
David and his wife Lisa have lived in the Wairarapa for 24 years. Their children attended Masterton schools – with his twin boys following in his footsteps as engineers, while his daughter is currently undertaking study in Arts at Victoria University in Wellington.
Council will formalise David’s appointment to the role at tomorrow’s Council meeting.
