There are some big projects happening in Masterton over the next 10 years including revamping the town centre and building a new multi-purpose community facility. These projects mean we have a real opportunity to integrate iwi artwork and storytelling into our public spaces that reflects the history and future aspirations of Māori. Masterton District Council is looking for a suitable contractor to act as the Iwi Artwork Coordinator. This person will be critical in the success of weaving iwi artwork into the fibre of future projects.

The coordinator would be responsible for finding artistic opportunities in the programme of work, and then commissioning and supporting local iwi artists to deliver the artwork alongside the Assets and Project Delivery team.

The ideal person will have demonstrable experience working with iwi, hapū and hapori Māori, and be a diplomatic and effective negotiator who enjoys working with lots of different people. They will be an excellent planner and will work with Council’s Kaumatua and Kaitakawaenga to coordinate the artwork engagement with iwi, hapū and hapori Māori.

This position is part-time with an average of 8 hours per week; however flexibility will be required at times if the work requires it. A strong connection with the region and the ability to be on the ground making things happen will be an advantage.
