A range of fantastic new play equipment has been opened at Burling Park in time for tomorrow’s Matariki holiday.

Masterton District Council has installed a new double flying fox, basket swing, and modular active play system incorporating a climbing net, overhead, stepping stones, balance walk, and slide.

The existing swing set has also been refurbished, and painted, with new seats installed, including two adult swing seats, a half-bucket child swing seat and expression swing seat which includes a baby bucket and a parent seat which enables parent and baby to swing in tandem facing one another.

The equipment was chosen after the Council engaged with the community in November, in partnership with the Lansdowne Residents Association.

This followed removal of a flying fox and play tower that had reached the end of its life.

Masterton Mayor Lyn Patterson officially opened the new equipment with help from pupils from Lakeview School.

“We’re delighted to have the new playground equipment ready for use in time for our first Matariki holiday,” she said.

“We have worked with the community to make sure this fantastic new equipment is what the community wanted and I’m sure it will get a lot of use for years to come.

“Playground equipment will continue to be a priority for our Community Facilities and Events team, so expect to see more improvements in other playgrounds in coming years.”

Hyslop Homes will generously be providing two picnic tables for the park.
