This scholarship was established in 1998, as a memorial to the late Murray King, who was a pioneer in the development of soil conservation and sustainable land management programmes in the Wairarapa.
The scholarship is worth up to $2,000 and will be awarded annually either as one scholarship or divided into several.
It will be awarded to Wairarapa students attending university to obtain degree qualifications, with particular emphasis on sustainable land management, indigenous forest management and soil conservation.
Students who have completed part or all of their secondary education in the Wairarapa, or who live in the Wairarapa at the time of applying for the scholarship are eligible.
Applications close on the 31 December each year.
