Rain in the Tararua Range has raised the level of the Waingawa River, the source of Masterton’s drinking water, enabling water restrictions to be eased to allow sprinklers on alternate days.
The move from handheld hoses is a relief for gardeners, but Masterton District Council Assets and Operations Manager David Hopman urged residents to continue to be watchful when using water
“I appreciate there hasn’t been much rain in Masterton itself, and we’re pleased to be able to ease the water restriction level, but water is a precious resource and unnecessary use should be avoided.
“The health of the river is important, and water conservation efforts do make a difference – they are very much appreciated.”
