Masterton District Council has lifted garden watering restrictions introduced on 3 January.
A reasonably wet late summer saw the restriction level remain at its minimum level, sprinklers on alternate days, from early February, as part of efforts to protect the Waingawa River, the source of Masterton’s drinking water.
Council Chief Executive David Hopman thanked residents for their conservation efforts.
“We know water restrictions can be frustrating for gardeners at times, but we appreciate the effort they make, and water conservation measures do make a difference for the river,” he said.
“And while we have lifted restrictions as we move into autumn, it is important people continue to use water wisely – it is a precious resource.”
