After one of the driest summers in recent memory, consistent rain over recent days has allowed Masterton District Council (MDC) to end garden watering restrictions for what is hoped is the foreseeable future.
Going into the summer, MDC had not had to introduce a total ban in 10 years, but this year total bans were introduced four times.
Restrictions were triggered by flow levels on the Waingawa River, the source of Masterton’s drinking water.
At one point, the river dropped to a one-in-50-years level.
MDC wants to thank residents for their water conservation efforts over the summer.
While all restrictions have now been lifted, residents are urged to continue to be careful with their use of water.
