Local Elections 2025
Local elections are held every three years across the country. This is a chance for residents and ratepayers of Masterton District to vote for a mayor and elected members to represent them.
The next Masterton Whakaoriori District Council local election is being held 11 October 2025. The community will also be asked to vote on whether or we should retain a Māori ward.
Key Dates
Tuesday 1 July | Candidate nominations open |
Friday 1 August | Candidate nominations close at 12noon |
6 August | Public notice of candidates names |
9-22 September | Voting documents delivered by mail |
7 October | Last day for postal voting. After this date votes must be returned to council's secure ballot boxes |
11 October | Election day - voting closes at 12noon |
16 - 22 October | Declaration of results |
October/November | Elected member's swearing in ceremonies |
December | Deadline for the return of election expense reports |
