New Community Climate Fund now open
A new community climate action has been launched today by Masterton District Council.
The fund is open for applications by groups undertaking projects that meet criteria based on the themes and goals of the Council’s Climate Action Plan (CAP), with the four action areas being
- Community Empowerment
- Circular Economy
- 20-Minute Town
- Climate Resilient District
An information sheet and application form are available on the Climate Fund page, with hard copies at the Council’s office at 65 Queen Street and Masterton District Library.
Establishment of the fund this year was the second action in the CAP, adopted by the Council last year.
Applications for funding will be assessed by the Climate Advisory Group which was set up after a public call for interested people this year – the first action in the CAP.
Council Senior Policy Advisor, Climate Change and Environment, Lisa McLaren said the aim of the fund was to kickstart projects that would energise climate action in the District.
“We know there are great ideas out there, and great work being done by community groups,” she said.
“The fund is designed to provide tangible support for projects that will make a real difference in tackling climate change in the District.”
Applications to the fund, on the official application form, are open until 12 June.
Applications ranging from $2000 to $20,000 will be accepted, with the maximum total fund available $50,000.
The Advisory Group’s recommendations will be considered at the Council’s on 28 June.
Council staff will hosting two drop-in sessions to provide information about the fund to help with applications. These will be held at the Masterton District Library, 54 Queen St, Masterton, on:
- Thursday 1 June 5:30-6:30pm
- Tuesday 6 June 10-11am
