Road Closures | Chapel St Road Reconstruction Deferred
Waka Kotahi has advised that the recently advertised road reconstruction works on Chapel Street south of Lincoln Road have been deferred until later this year. This is due to ongoing bad weather and the need to have two fine weekends to complete the work.
The long-range weather forecast for Masterton, as well as consultations with MetService, has informed Waka Kotahi's decision to postpone the works.
Waka kotahi has stated that while there were weather risks in attempting the work at this time of year, it was considered to be worth the effort, given the urgent need to reconstruct the deteriorating road base in parts of Chapel Street.
The street will not be allowed to deteriorate through the winter and will be continually monitored. Dry periods will be used to remedy surface defects if required until we can get back into the full reconstruction project south of Lincoln Road and also start further reconstruction work on Chapel Street around Cornwall Street.
Waka Kotahi will consult with Masterton District Council on mutually agreed dates for when these projects can start and will keep you informed.
