Night Road Works | Opaki Road
Night Road Works for Opaki Road - Higgins as Contractors to the Masterton District Council has been upgrading the existing 150mm Steel Water main on Opaki Road to a new 250mm PVC Watermain from Oxford Street to Hansell's. As part of of this, we are required to complete some of the work at night.
Night shift works will commence on Sunday the 6th April and will run for two nights, Monday night being the final night for works. Our contingency if these works are not completed will flow through to the next night (8th April). We are performing this work at night as we will possibly be disrupting water service for some residents. To keep the downtime and affected residents/business loss of water supply to a minimum we require the work to be carried out at night. Although effort will be put in place to mitigating the level of noise, please be aware that there will be a considerable amount of noise that we are not able to mitigate due to the nature of the works. We apologize for the inconvenience.
During this period, construction plant will be working on the road and at times, traffic flows may be affected. Access to individual properties on both sides of the street may be limited as the excavation processes are undertaken. We will endeavor to complete the works as quickly as possible and if needed, provide temporary access during construction.
Trenches excavated will be backfilled and final surface reinstatement will be undertaken at the end of each shift.
Please do not hesitate to approach any of our staff on the street should you require any further information or assistance.
In conjunction with this night road works is a Planned Water Shutdown which will affect Oxford Street, Opaki Road between Oxford Street and Jordan Terrace, First Street and Cooper Street from First Street to end of cul-de-sac on Sunday 6th & Monday 7th April 2025 from 9.00pm to 4am. Contingency Date: 8th April (9pm-4am)
The water supplying your area may be shut down for water main maintenance work at the indicated date and time above. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and suggest that you store water for use during this period.
If you need water during this period, you should fill up suitable containers before the water is turned off.
• Try not to use the hot taps while the water is off. The hot water cylinder may be damaged if the water level gets too low.
• Do not use washing machines, automatic dishwashers or other appliances that use water during the shut-off period as they may be damaged if used without water.
• In the event of inclement or persistent weather, work will be deferred to a later date.
• When the water supply is turned back on, the water may have a milky-white appearance. This is caused by small air bubbles in the water supply and will not affect taste or quality. We will try to eliminate most of the air from the system when the supply is restored. However, if air is still visible in your water, running a tap for a few minutes should clear it from your pipes.
The water may be restored earlier than indicated
