Reviewing the Plan

District Plans must be reviewed and updated every 10 years. The existing Wairarapa Combined District Plan (WCDP) is now 10 years old and due for review and renewal. The review of the WCDP is an opportunity to influence how the Council controls land use and subdivision in the District.

The review process is expected to take around 3 years to complete and the outcome will deliver a revised WCDP in 2023, for Councils to move forward with, in years to come.

Masterton Edition

The three Wairarapa District Councils (Masterton, Carterton and South Wairarapa) have prepared a Combined District Plan, under the Resource Management Act 1991. It was the first Combined District Plan in New Zealand and the first 2nd generation plan to become fully operative.

The District Plan is in two volumes:

Volume 1: Objectives, Policies and Rules

Volume 2: Maps that are available to view online.

You can view a hard copy at Council offices and public libraries.

SWDC and CDC Edition

This version of the WCDP applies within South Wairarapa District and Carterton District. This version of the district plan includes requirements for on-site carparking that do not apply within the Masterton District.

Note: For subdivision, use and development of land within the Masterton District, the Masterton Edition of the WCDP is the correct version to use.
