Hood Aerodrome Project
The purpose of this project is to transform Hood Aerodrome into a more modern, functional airport and centre for aviation activity, with capacity for growth beyond the current activity.
The project will deliver:
- runway widening and resurfacing
- an extention of the terminal apron
- an in-fill of an open drain on the eastern side of the sealed runway
- an upgrade or replacement of airfield fixtures (lighting, windsock etc)
- an upgrade or installation of security fencing (to meet CAA Qualification Certification requirements)
- water, wastewater and electrical upgrades and extension to support hangar development
- support for the aerodrome to meet the CAA Qualification Certification deadline of June 2025
- the development of access roads to support hangar development
The works to widen and reseal the runway, extend the terminal apron, and remediate the open drain on the eastern side of the sealed runway are underway,
The sealed runway will be closed for the duration of the runway widening and resealing work. The grass runway will remain open during this time.
All work will be carried out during the day. Any runway that is closed will have white crosses placed on the runway as per CAA requirements.
Project update
The cross runway 10/28 will close from 6am on 16 April and will remain closed until the sealed runway is complete.
Access to runway 06/24 grass is via Holding Point Alpha, crossing on the concrete between the 06 runway threshold and the river for lining up on 06 grass. The Eastern taxiway remains open and should be used for lining up on runway 24 grass.
Trucks may be crossing in the vicinity of Holding Point Alpha. The Aerodrome Operator will be managing the trucks crossing and will be monitoring on frequency 122.4
The sealed runway 06/24 remains closed until work is complete
