Riversdale

Riversdale is a small beach town that hosts a surf lifesaving club, golf course and a permanent resident population of over 400 people.

The Riversdale Beach Community Plan has been developed by the Riversdale Beach Community Association (RBCA) to set out community priority goals and ways to achieve them over the next 10 years.

Water Safety

Riversdale is well-known for its natural beauty and good surfing waves. However, the sea has very strong offshore currents and rips running out from the beach.

Please read all warning signs. The Riversdale Beach Surf Life Saving Club patrols the beach over the summer holiday period and asks parents to take extra care of children and ensure they swim between the flags.

Public Toilets

Public Toilets are available next to the surf lifesaving club and are open from 7am – 7pm during daylight savings and from 8am – 5pm in winter.

Rubbish and Recycling

Riversdale has a kerbside rubbish and recycling collection on Mondays. Please ensure your rubbish and recycling is kerbside by 7:30am on collection day in official Masterton District Council rubbish bags. Rubbish bags are $4.50 each and can be purchased in packs of 5 for $22.50 from the Riversdale Store. Recycling should be put in crates, if you have more recycling than you can fit in a crate you can take it to the transfer station or the yellow recycling containers on Pinedale Crescent.

The Riversdale transfer station is located at 1171 Homewood Road and is open at the following times:

Sunday in Dec, Jan & Feb

1:30pm – 4:30pm

1:30pm – 4:30pm

1:30pm – 7:30pm

If a non-council rubbish bag is used, the cost of dropping it at the transfer station is $8.

Fishing Regulations

Keeping up to date with the latest fishing regulations is vital, especially those relating to crayfish, shellfish and finfish, which have strict quota and size restrictions. Information on fishing regulations is available at the Riversdale Beach Store. Rules and regulations can be found on the MPI website.

Boats

To keep everyone safe in the water, please keep speeds down near the beach and other boaties or swimmers. The legal speed limit for all boats (including jet skis) is 5 knots (9km/h) within 200 metres of the beach or any boat with a dive flag, or within 50 metres of another boat or swimmer. Don’t forget, all boats must carry lifejackets suitable for each person onboard. Access to the water for jet skis is from the boat launch area at the southern end of the main beach.
